KATHMANDU: The Home Ministry has warned that anyone attempting to encroach on government or public land will face legal action.

Issuing a press statement on Monday, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) issued a threatening statement the next day after the firing incident in Rupandehi saying that four squatters were shot dead by the police in Motipur Industrial Area of ​​Rupandehi.

The statement issued by the ministry’s assistant spokesperson Dil Kumar Tamang said, “Anyone who attempts to encroach on government or public land outside the prescribed legal procedures will be informed that action will be taken in accordance with the law.”

Four people were killed and more than 30 others injured when police opened fire on a group of squatters in Motipur of Rupandehi’s Industrial Area on Sunday.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has expressed its heartfelt condolences to the victims and wished speedy recovery to the injured.

Similarly, it mentioned that the government is committed to provide agricultural land for settlement and livelihood by identifying the right to housing, the right of landless, dalits and landless squatters which are among the fundamental rights of the Constitution of Nepal.
