UML Statute Convention proposes 225-member Central Committee



KATHMANDU: The UML’s Statute General Convention has proposed a 225-member Central Committee (CC) as the the central structure of the party.

The first Statute General Convention of the party is a three-day event that kicked off at Sunrise Hall in Godavari Friday.

As per the Statute Convention, the UML will now have single Chairman, five Vice-Chairmen, one General Secretary, six Secretaries and 212 members, making the Central Committee (CC) a 225-member central body.

Similarly, the chairperson of the provincial committee will be an ex-officio member of the Central Committee (CC).

Earlier, the UML had two Deputy General Secretaries. It has been proposed to scrap the post of Deputy General Secretary in the ongoing convention.

The post of senior leader has also been removed from the UML. Prior to this, senior leader came second to the chairman in the order of precedence.

At the most recent UML Central Committee (CC) meeting, it was proposed to have seven vice-chairmen in the party. However, the Statute Convention has proposed to limit the number of vice-chairman to five.
