AUKUS increased tensions in Asia-Pacific region: UML Chair Oli



KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli has analyzed that the recent trilateral defense agreement between the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia, also known as AUKUS, increased tensions in the Asia-Pacific region.

While presenting a political report at the party’s Statute General Convention that began in Godavari Friday, Chairman KP Oli said the the latest geopolitics tension in the region increased due to AUKUS pact. The trilateral security pact was announced on September 15, 2021, for the Indo-Pacific region.

Under the pact, the US and the UK will help Australia to acquire nuclear-powered submarines to counter the influence of China in the Indo-Pacific region.

Chair Oli also analyzed the bilateral relations between Myanmar, Afghanistan and India and Pakistan, among other. He added the tussle between India and China had also affected Nepal.

Oli also advocated for resolving the border dispute between Nepal and India. He added the party was aware about One-China policy and India’s security interests.
