NC holding Municipal elections in 64 districts from today

KATHMANDU: Ruling Nepali Congress (NC) is holding local -village / municipality- level elections in 64 districts from Saturday.

According to sources, most of the levels are likely to have a neck-to-neck competition between the candidates supporting party establishment and the rival opponents.

NC will get a president, two vice presidents, two secretaries and two joint secretaries from the election. The party treasurer will be nominated from the elected members.

The voters in the election are the regional representatives elected from the ward convention.

NC will conduct election in Kathmandu Metropolitan City on October 2.

According to Central Election Committee Secretary and Advocate Keshav Rijal, the convention could not be held in 13 districts as the active membership list has not been made public there.

Rijal says that the membership committee has not received the details of active membership in 13 districts.

“As we have not received the membership details, the election will take place later in 13 districts. We will hold the election after receiving the membership,” Secretary Rijal said.

Saptari, Siraha, Dhanusha, Mahottari, Sarlahi, Rautahat, Bara, Parsa, Rasuwa, Surkhet, Dolpa, Kailali and Banke are the districts where active membership has not  been made public yet.
