Awareness program held to conserve intangible cultural heritage in Bhojpur

BHOJPUR: An awareness program to conserve intangible cultural heritages has been launched in the Bhojpur district.

The main aim of the event is to identify and develop living heritages across the country and conserve the custom, culture, and lifestyles of people, it has been said.

Conservation of intangible heritage is included in the UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage.

“The UNESCO is at work to conserve and develop intangible heritage. Intangible heritage is an asset of our country.

There is a need to conserve its importance,” said Dr Baburam Adhikari, assistant general secretary for the Nepal National Commission for the UNESCO.

The UNESCO initiates a plan to bring an expert team for the research on religious sites including Dingla, he said. “Dingla is a historic site. Contributions here to the development of the Sanskrit language are immense.

An expert team will be available for the study on the site in a bid to unearth intangible physical heritages,” he said.

The UNESCO has organized a three-day capacity enhancement training session at a community level in the district. “There are variations in various sectors in Bhojpur.

In some cases, the languages and cultures of some communities have been disappearing. Such training session helps conserve such disappearing cultures,” said Bishnu Kumar Rai, a participant in the training session.
