Brick industries on verge of collapse in Chitwan

CHITWAN: The brick industry, which is in crisis due to obstruction by workers and lack of raw materials and COVID-19, has been on the brink of collapse.

Brick industries are in Ratnanagar, Rapti and Khairahani municipalities of the district.

Of the 18 industries in the district, only two were partially operational last year.

According to Narayan Sapkota, president of the Chitwan Brick Industries Association, only four or five industries are making preparations to operate this year.

Other industries are said to be on the verge of closure. He further said that an industry had to bear an average loss of Rs 20 million due to the epidemic.

He informed that some industries have to sell their land and repay the loan. Coal prices have almost doubled this year.
