UML proposal retains provisions of age limit and election of office bearers in general convention

KATHMANDU: The UML has proposed to retain the age limit of 70 years for participation in the party’s 10th general convention and that all office bearers would be elected.

In a proposal submitted to the Standing Committee (SC) meeting that started Sunday, it has been mentioned that the age limit of 70 years will be maintained and all office bearers would be elected.

A source said, “The provisions for age limit and limiting executive post holders’ to two terms has been maintained.”

The age limit of 70 years was introduced from the 9th general convention. However, a SC meeting of party Chairman KP Oli’s faction had earlier decided to do away with the provision of age limit.

In the past, the Oli faction had met and proposed that only the party chairman would be elected from the general convention and the chairman would nominate remaining office bearers.

However, in the proposal submitted to the Standing Committee Sunday, it has been mentioned that all the office bearers will be elected from the general convention.

The SC meeting held Sunday dwelt on proposals prepared to be tabled at the upcoming Statute Convention slated for October 1-3.

Vice-Chairman Yuvraj Gyawali, Deputy General Secretary Ghanshyam Bhusal, SC members Amrit Kumar Bohara, Keshav Badal and Pushpa Kandel gave their views on the proposal today.

The party’s political, organizational and other proposals to be tabled at the Statute Convention would be discussed Monday as well.
