KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli has come down heavily on the Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba-led government for defaming Nepal internationally.
He sniffed sarcasm over Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba for working haphazardly, and failing to move an inch when it comes to development.
“Forget about development, PM Deuba has even failed to expand the cabinet,” UML Chairman Oli said at a program organized by his party in Lalitpur Sunday.
“Can there be anything more ridiculous than this?” he queried.
He said the government’s failure and Speaker Agni Sapkota’s failure to perform impartially would put democracy on the rocks.
Coming down heavily on the government for giving the award to people on the basis of nepotism and favoritism, Oli said, “This is extremely puerile. History will evaluate.”
UML Chairman Oli added, “It is high time that all Nepalis stood together to safeguard the constitution now.”
Lambasting Speaker Sapkota for failing to perform impartially, not like a political cadre, Oli suggested him respect the dignity of the House of Representatives.
“We need to move ahead towards establishing a “comprehensive democracy” for the sake of the country’s prosperity, human rights, equality, among others.” He added.
Meanwhile, he also said that the promulgation of the Constitution was a challenge since it was drafted amid threats and intimidation from certain power centers.
“We did not pay heed to their concerns and instructions,” he said adding that the people of Nepal could write their own constitution themselves.
The Constitution brought to an end to the discriminatory practices that prevailed in the country since it was made by the people’s representatives.
“This is called constitutional supremacy,” Oli said dubbing it a major achievement.
He claimed that the promulgation of the Constitution in 2015 has led Nepal into a new era.
“Therefore, we all need to focus on protecting the constitution,” he added.
Meanwhile, UML Chairman Oli also lambasted some political leaders, who served as ministers as per the constitution, for playing double-standard to deceive the Nepali people.
“On one hand, they take the oath of office and secrecy, and become ministers as per the constitution, and on the other, say they would not celebrate the Constitution Day,” Oli ridiculed the political leaders.
By saying so, he was indicating at the Janata Samajbadi Party, which has said it would not observe the day.
