KATHMANDU: The Ram Chandra Poudel faction of the Nepali Congress (NC) has demanded re-election in Dadeldhura — NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba’s home district.

A meeting of leaders close to senior leader Poudel held at party central office in Sanepa Monday decided that the ward convention held in Dadeldhura on September 10 was unacceptable to them. They also warned not to repeat the irregularities and arbitrary tendencies seen at Deuba’s home district in other 20 districts.

Speaking at a press conference after the meeting, senior leader Poudel said the ward convention held forcibly by misusing authority should be invalid. A statement issued by the faction expressed objection over the the way the ward convention was held in Deuba’s home district.

“I am not ready to accept what has been said about the ward convention in Deuba’s home district,” said senior leader Poudel. “The President should assure that the general convention will be fair and he must start that from Dadeldhura.”

Though the party’s district working committee took a decision not to holding ward convention in Dadeldhura, NC President Deuba convened the ward convention by mobilizing security personnel.

District President Karna Malla accused that the names of active members recommended by the district were altered by the center. He had decided not to hold the ward convention until the dispute was resolved.

Senior leader Poudel had met President Deuba and asked him to stop the ward convention. However, the ward convention was held by mobilizing the police. The Poudel group has demanded to re-election at ward level in the district.
