NHRC takes exception to Media Council Bill

KATHMANDU: National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken strong exception to the Media Council Bill saying that it is against the freedom of expression and freedom of the press.

In a meeting with the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) on Tuesday,  Prakash Wasti, acting chairman of the NHRC, said the Bill has posed a challenge to not only the press freedom but also the fundamental rights of the people.

Freedom of expression is a fundamental right which is likely to be curtailed by some provisions of the Media Council Bill, said Wasti.
