Poetry e-book launched during Poetry Festival in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU: Poetry e-book ‘Musings On The Ordinary And The Mundane’ by Medha Upreti was released during Poetry Festival in the presence of distinguished guests, poets, artists and athletes in an outdoor event at Utpala Café Garden, Bouddha, Kathmandu on Thursday.

The main highlight of the poetry festival was the release and launch of ninety poetries in English language by Medha Upreti. During the poetry festival, assembled poets recited their own works in Nepali and English.

The entire event was managed by Aakar Events and the photographers for the event were Prajwol Shrestha and Bijay Shrestha of Luna D Productions Pvt. Ltd. The publisher of the e-book is Thuprai Solutions.

The large outdoor gardens and courtyards of Utpala Café were suitable for the occasion for people to maintain physical distance given the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The event was covered live by hipamat.com.

Assembled poets at the festival included published poets Manjila Sharma Upreti, Elisha Sharma of Classic FM, Prapuja Simkhada, Sumi Shahi, Dhanu Hamal, Usha Thami and Dipak Bohora. They read their original works bringing the poetry festival alive.

Singer Anil Nath Upreti sang his original composition “Jiban mero kasto kasto”. Musical fans Sushav Nath Upreti sang Bhaktaraj Acharya’s song “Jaha chan Buddha kaa aankhaa” and Reshma Bhandari sang Ani Choying Dolma’s song “Phool ko aankhaa ma”. The songs gave additional charm to the evening.

Former Ambasador to Myanmar Paras Ghimire with his wife Prabina were in the audience throughout the entire event. Famous personalities in the audience included basketball player Nabin Lynkha, footballer Devraj Poudel and bodybuilder Pranaya Shahi. Creative handicraft artist Sunil Maharjan attended the poetry festival and e-book launch. Raju Gotame of Thuprai Solutions was also present.

The e-book ‘Musings On The Ordinary And The Mundane’ is available to read on https://thuprai.com/book/musings-ordinary-and-mundane/ and on the e-book reader app Thuprai which runs on ios and android devices. The price of the E-book is only Rs 100. “I want the book of 90 poems to be affordable to students. They can easily afford to buy the e-book with their pocket money,” said Medha Upreti.

Medha Upreti, a Master of Arts degree in English Literature from Indira Gandhi National Open University, is IELTS and PTE Tutor since February 2007 in educational consultancy in Kathmandu. Musings On The Ordinary And The Mundane is Medha’s debut poetry book. The poetries are in contemporary free verse, minimalistic and confessional in style. The poet has written about everyday life topics, surroundings, weather, amusements, and food.
