KATHMANDU: Bagmati Province lawmaker Narottam Vaidya has filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court demanding to stop the 14th general convention of the ruling Nepali Congress (NC).

NC ward conventions are slated to begin in wards across the country from Friday.

Vaidya stated in the writ that the NC’s general convention should not be held during coronavirus pandemic as doing so would increase the risk of the virus to the lives of citizens.

NC will hold its district convention on September 26, province convention on October 27-29, and national convention on November 25-29.

Likewise, the convention at the local level has been scheduled for September 12 and province assembly constituency-level convention on September 17 and the House of Representatives constituency-level convention of the NC is slated for September 21.
