KATHMANDU: Former Prime Minister Jhala Nath Khanal has requested the Election Commission (EC) on Tuesday requesting it to make arrangement to verify his name from Nepali Embassy in Delhi.
According to EC sources, the Commission has received a letter from leader Khanal stating that he is in the newly formed CPN -Unified Socialist.
“We have received a letter from leader Khanal that he is in the newly formed CPN-Unified Socialist,” EC secretary Suresh Adhikari said, adding, “He has requested to make arrangements for identification at Nepali Embassy in Delhi.”
EC has given Madhav Kumar Nepal-led Unified Socialist Wednesday afternoon’s time for verification of the names.
But Khanal is in India for medical treatment. He has undergone kidney transplantation recently.
Adhikari informed that the Commission would make decision on the issue in a meeting to take place soon.
According to leader Khanal’s secretariat, he has a follow-up at the hospital on Wednesday.
The commission has given time to the parties formed by Madhav Kumar Nepal and Mahanta Thakur to be physically present for identification between 11:30 am and 2 pm on Wednesday.
