KATHMANDU: The Lalitpur Metropolitan City has urged the people to celebrate ‘Jatras’ and other festivals in the city in a symbolic manner in an effort to make the public aware of the risk of COVID-19 spread due to the gathering of a large number of people.
A meeting chaired by Lalitpur Metropolis Mayor Chiri Babu Maharjan and stakeholders urged to this effect on Saturday.
Mayor Maharjan said all kinds of processions and celebrations would be marked with limited participation of required personnel such as priests. “The metropolis has decided to adopt precautions and limit participation at regular places of worship to protect the citizens from COVID-19,” he said. He reminded that all would be able to celebrate upcoming festivals with fanfare after the pandemic subsides.
Mayor Maharjan, stating that the role of citizens was vital to curb COVID-19 spread, requested to use masks when going out of the house.
