Karnali CM sees need of strengthening federalism for respect to martyrs



KARNALI: Karnali Province Chief Minister Mahendra Bahadur Shahi has said martyrs’ dream will only be realized when federalism is strengthened.

Extending his best wishes on the occasion of the ‘Establishment of the Province and Martyrs’ Day-2078 BS’ today, the Chief Minister stated that Karnali was established through the sacrifices of four martyrs who attained martyrdom during the movement launched for the attainment of the Province.

The people of Karnali who had fought for two weeks against the decision to integrate Karnali and Sudurpaschim regions to form a single province and four people got martyrdom during the movement that led to the formation of the separate Karnali Province, the Chief Minister said in the message.

It may be noted that one Hari Bahadur Kunwar of Jumla and Yam Bahadur BC, Tikaram Gautam and Gopal Singh Rajuwar of Surkhet had sacrificed their lives while fighting at the frontline for the sake of an independent Karnali .

The Chief Minister has extended heartfelt tribute to those martyrs and wished for a recovery of those left injured during the movement. He has expressed his gratitude to all those who had contributed to making the movement successful.

He called one and all from the Karnali Province to be vigilant against any acts capable of hurting federalism and unite for further strengthening it.

As the Chief Minister said, the Province Government had a plan of observing the Day in a grand manner, but it could not be possible due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The Province Government has announced a public holiday across the Province today on the occasion of its establishment day.

“May this Day inspires the Karnali folks to further unite and contribute to the ‘prosperous Karnali, happy Karnali people’ launched by the government”, said Chief Minister Shahi.
