KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML has called a meeting of the Standing Committee (SC) and Parliamentary Party (PP) at 11 am today.

A meeting of the PP is scheduled to be held after the SC meeting. The UML has convened a meeting of both the SC and the PP immediately after the President ended the parliament session on the recommendation of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba.

Senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal’s side has also been invited to both the meetings.

UML chief whip Bishal Bhattarai, on the other hand, said that party meetings were a regular process at the end and beginning of the parliamentary session.

However, UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has objected to the abrupt prorogation of the parliamentary session and accused the ruling coalition of bringing an ordinance to split the UML.

Meanwhile, he also warned that any conspiracies to divide the UML and its PP would not be acceptable to the party.

Issuing a statement on Monday night after holding discussions with party leaders at his residence in Balkot, Oli said, “I heartily appeal to all party leaders, cadres and honorable members of the House of Representatives and the National Assembly to stand firm against the conspiracy being hatched to split the party.”
