NEA’s former Chief Shakya moves court seeking to revoke Kulman Ghising’s appointment

KATHMANDU: Former Managing Director of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) Hitendra Dev Shakya has moved the Supreme Court with a writ petition seeking revocation of the appointment of Kulman Ghising as NEA’s new Managing Director.

Devendra Dhakal, information officer of the Supreme Court, confirmed that Shakya filed a writ petition on Monday, seeking the top post of NEA for himself. His writ has been scheduled for hearing for Wednesday, informed Dhakal.

In the writ petition, Shakya claimed that he had not received any official letter of removal from office and the government’s move of roping in Ghising to replace him had violated his constitutional rights.

Shakya sought an interim order to reinstate himself as the managing director of NEA. He has named the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Ministry of Energy, Minister of Energy, NEA Board of Directors and Executive Director Kulman Ghising as defendants in the writ petition.

Earlier, the government had given Shakya a Secretary-level posting at Water and Energy Commission for four years and appointed Ghising in his place to lead the NEA for the second time.
