NC amends party statute, curtails rights of active members

Only regional reps and ward presidents to be voters in municipal conventions



KATHMANDU: Ruling Nepali Congress (NC) has amended the party statute curtailing the rights of active memberships.

According to the new provision, only the regional representatives and ward presidents can become voters in the rural municipality and municipality conventions.

A central working committee (CWC) meeting held on Saturday took a decision to this effect, informed CWC member Ramesh Lekhak.

Earlier, all the active members of the rural municipalities and municipalities could become the voters of the rural municipality and municipality conventions.

Lekhak said this provision has adopted in view of the COVID-19 pandemic to avoid crowds.

The new provision will be endorsed by the 14th General Convention to be held on November 25-29.
