Mahat regrets NC leaders’ leaking internal discussion: NC leader Mahat

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) Joint General Secretary Prakash Sharan Mahat has regretted that issues covered during internal discussions were leaked by party members, and the media carried them with fabrication.

Issuing a press note Friday, Mahat drew serious attention to media reports that he alleged were ‘fabricated’.

“I object to dissemination of news that tied me and my remarks shared in presence of the prime minister and his close circle to a video titled ‘Why I like Sher Bahadur Deuba?’ The media have falsely stated that I spoke in favor of the video. My attention has been drawn to such fabrication,” Mahat said in the press note. “I am of the view that the ‘said video’ could have been presented in a more mature way by including facts and grounds,” he added.

A NC committee created a video on PM Deuba last week chronicling the good works he did throughout his lifetime, including the time when he was in office and when he was not.

According to Mahat, he wondered why leaders close to PM Deuba sought support of social media when PM Deuba was always within their reach to convey him anything during the party’s internal discussion. But the mass media had circulated content by fabricating information. He clarified issues that were not discussed were also included to create news by the media.

“In a scenario where any action taken by the prime minister or his aides seemed to have tarnished the image of the PM, I only wondered what situation compelled leaders and aides close to the PM to seek the help of social media instead of directly talking to the Prime Minister for rectifying manners and attitude,” the statement said.

“It is unfortunate that what was not mentioned during the discussion was distorted and communicated through the media,” he appealed to NC stakeholders, supporters and well-whishers.

Mahat is of the view that the weaknesses of the leadership should be directly conveyed to the leadership at first, and if that doesn’t work then only one can take help of party institutions and mass media.
