KATHMANDU: The special session of the Provincial Assembly (PA) of Lumbini Pradesh scheduled for today will decide the fate of the provincial government led by Chief Minister Shankar Pokharel.
The government of the Lumbini Province has been in trouble after the opposition parties lodged a no confidence motion against Chief Minister Pokhael.
The PA special session has been called for 1 pm. CM Pokhare is likely to step down prior to the Provincial Assembly meeting.
There are only two options before Chief Minister Pokhrel – either to face the no confidence motion or tender resignation prior to the meeting.
There are 38 lawmakers in the provincial government led by Shankar Pokharel while Nepali Congress (NC), CPN (Maoist Center), Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) and Rastriya Janamorcha (RJM) have 41 lawmakers.
Most of the UML lawmakers and provincial lawmakers have advised CM Pokharel to tender resignation prior to the PA meeting. CM Pokhrel is making preparations to hold a press conference at 12 pm.
