UML Lumbini Province PP meeting ahead of PA special session

To discuss no confidence motion

BUTWAL: CPN-UML Lumbini Province has called a parliamentary party (PP) meeting after the opposition lawmakers lodged a no confidence motion against Chief Minister Shankar Pokhrel.

Minister for Economic Affairs and Planning Baijanath Chaudhari, who is also the government spokesperson, said a PP meeting of ruling UML has been called on Wednesday morning to discuss the no confidence motion and take an appropriate decision decision on it.

According to Chaudhari, the meeting of the UML PP will take this morning at the residence of Chief Minister Pokharel.

As the Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday could not hear a writ petition seeking to stay a special session of Lumbini Provincial Assembly (PA), the PA is set to discuss a no-confidence motion filed against Chief Minister Shankar Pokhrel today. The special session of the PA has been called at 1 pm today.

It is learnt that the PP meeting will decide either to face the no-confidence motion or tender resignation by the Chief Minister.

There are 38 lawmakers in the provincial government led by  Shankar Pokharel  while Nepali Congress (NC), CPN (Maoist Center), Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) and Rastriya Janamorcha (RJM) have 41 lawmakers.

If CM Pokhrel faces no-confidence motion, he is likely to lose his post.
