NC leader Thapa says party president should table alternative proposal to hold general convention

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) leader Gagan Thapa has said the party president should present alternatives to holding the general convention.

As the 14th general convention slated for September 1-4 hangs in the balance, various NC factions have discussed and proposed alternatives to the general convention.

Stressing that the general convention should held on the scheduled date at a meeting of NC district presidents’ close to senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel in Kathmandu Tuesday, central Member Thapa said that President Sher Bahadur Deuba should bring forward a proposal regarding the general convention.

“Firstly, we need to stick to our stance that the convention should be held on the fixed date. However, if the convention cannot be held on the scheduled time frame then it is up to the party president to decide what to do about it. He need to propose what is to be done,” said Thapa.

Thapa was of the view that NC president should also clarify why the convention could not be held on time and then after he could present alternatives. “The party president should table his proposal and state reasons why the convention could not be held. After he presents his proposal then we can discuss on that proposal,” he said.
