NC urges govt to bring out the facts of Darchula incident



KATHMANDU: Ruling Nepali Congress (NC) has urged the government to bring out reality of the Darchula incident and give justice to its citizens.

Issuing a press statement on Friday, NC spokesperson Bishwa Prakash Sharma demanded that the entire reality of the incident should be made public and dialogue should be held with the Indian side about the latter’s involvement in cutting off the tuin Nepali citizens had been using to cross the river.

“I would like to draw the government’s serious attention to the question related to the incident related to a Nepali youth who went missing in the river while crossing the Mahakali River from tuin while coming to Khalanga from Byas village of Darchula district,” the statement said, adding, “The preliminary investigation shows the ripping of the tuin led to the tragic incident, the party urges the government to have thorough investigation on the issue and hold talks with Indian side and offer justice to the victim of the incident.”

NC Spokesperson Sharma stated that after the news of the incident became public and the party tried to verify the news, party’s Darchula district president Lalit Singh Bohora confirmed from the locals that SSBs were involved in the incident.

35-year-old Jay Singh Dhami  fell into the river and went disappearing while crossing the river Mahakali River via tuin.

NC has described the incident as sad, inhumane and very offensive.

A person had gone missing after falling from Tuin while crossing the Mahakali River at Malghat in Beas Gaonpalika-2 of Darchula district. In the morning, 5.6 locals crossed the Mahakali River from Tuin and Dhami fell into the Mahakali River and disappeared.

According to Inspector Narendra Chand, District Police Office, Darchula, 30-year-old Jay singh Dhami went missing in Mahakali while crossing the tuin via India on Friday morning.

According to the locals, Dhami fell into the river after being pulled by a wire when the Indian SSB threatened to open the cable.

“Five or six locals were on their way to the market to fetch goods from the market. Three of them crossed the river from tuin. SSB reached there when they were crossing,” Janak Dhami, who had been with Jay Singh, said, adding, “While he was trying to take out the cable, water pushed him away along with the cable he was taking off.”

Police informed that missing Dhami’s search is underway.
