KATHMANDU: The distribution of active memberships of the Nepali Congress (NC) has been postponed in 121 wards across the country due to disputes, according to the report submitted by the active membership probe committee.
Active membership probe committee member and spokesperson Pradip Poudel said that the membership has been postponed in more than 100 wards and a decision on this issue will be taken only after the 14th General Convention of the party.
According to the report, the membership of 8 wards of Bhokraha rural municipality in Sunsari-4 has been postponed. Membership of Koshi rural municipality 1 and Barahakshetra municipality-11 has also been postponed.
Similarly, memberships of Mahottari Manhara Sisuwa municipality 8 and 10, Sarlahi Baharathwa municipality 11, Rautahat Dewahi Gonahi municipality 6, Madhavnarayan municipality 1, 2 and 3, Durga Bhagwati municipality 4, Yamunamai municipality 2 and 5 and Rajdeshi municipality have been postponed.
Similarly, the membership of all wards of Parsa-3 has been postponed, the membership of wards 22, 27, 29 and 31 of Birgunj Metropolitan City, wards 2 and 6 of Bahudarmai Municipality and 5, 6 and 7 of Pasaugadhi municipality have been postponed.
Similarly, the active memberships of Kavre Panchkhal municipality 12, Lalitpur Metropolitan City-28, Mahankal rural municipality 1, Mahalakshmi municipality 6, Kathmandu Tokha municipality 8, 10 and 11, Nagarjuna 2, 3 and 6, Tarkeshwor 3 and 6, Kirtipur municipality 2, Dakshinkali 2, Gokarneshwor 1, 2, 3 and 4 have also been postponed.
Similarly, the active memberships of all the six wards of Dhading Rubi Valley municipality, Chitwan Ratnanagar municipality 7, Gulmi Musikot municipality 5, Kapilvastu Mayadevi municipality 3, Janaki municipality 2, 5, 8 and 9 of Kailali-2 have been suspended.
Meanwhile, all the memberships of Dolpa (under new category) has been postponed while the membership of Achham Kamal Bazaar municipality-7, Panchadewal Binayak municipality-1, 2, 4, Dadeldhura, Navdurga municipality-3 and Amargadhi municipality-5 has been postponed due to dispute.
The active membership details of Bara and Saptari District Working Committees have not been included in the active membership report as the details were received late.
The report states that due to party integration, active membership disputes in some areas of Sindhupalchowk, Rasuwa, Kavrepalanchok, Dhanusha, Sarlahi and Kailali are yet to be resolved. The remaining disputes will be resolved by the officials themselves.
The membership report submitted by the probe committee to the party President on Tuesday has been returned to the committee with an order that the Committee should resolve the issue within 24 hours.
Committee coordinator Ramesh Lekhak had submitted the report to the party president at a meeting of party officials only on Tuesday. The number of active members of the NC, including both old and new, has reached 852,711.
