NC office-bearers’ meeting underway at Budhanilakantha

KATHMANDU: A meeting of the ruling Nepali Congress (NC) office bearers is underway at the Prime Minister’s private residence in Budhanilakantha.

The meeting is discussing the report submitted by the active membership probe committee on Tuesday and disputes surrounding the issue of active memberships.

The probe committee has submitted a list of 852,000 active members across the country with recommendations to President Deuba.

The committee has submitted a report urging the top leaders to resolve the dispute over the distribution of new memberships in Bara, Saptari, Dhanusha and Sarlahi.

The controversy is likely to escalate further after committee member Kalyan Gurung disagreed with the report.

Top leaders had been holding internal discussions since Tuesday to form an opinion on the report submitted by the committee.

The group, including senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel, had held a discussion on the issue at the residence of former General Secretary Prakash Man Singh in Chaksibari.

The Poudel group has accused the establishment party of distributing active memberships in a one-sided manner.

The dispute over the active members of the NC is likely to hit the upcoming 14th General Convention of the party slated for September 1-4.
