Article 163 (4) restricts reappointment of Sherchan and Pariyar as Province Chiefs

KATHMANDU: Although CPN-Maoist Center recommended Amik Sherchan and Tilak Pariyar as the province chiefs of Gandaki and Province 2, the recommendation contradicts with Article 163 (4) of the Constitution.

Article 163 (4) of the Constitution hails that a person may not be the chief of province for more than once in the same province.

Earlier, Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ had handed over the names of the candidates for the Province Chief to Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba on Tuesday afternoon.

CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli led government had dismissed Province Chief duo Amik Sherchan of Gandaki and Tilak Pariyar of Province 2 after Oli’s conflict with Maoist Center ran deeper.

Earlier, Chairman Prachanda had met Prime Minister Deuba to discuss on the issue of cabinet expansion on Tuesday morning.
