Soniya to vie with Russian player Irina in judo on July 24 at Tokyo Olympics



KATHMANDU: Nepali Judo player Soniya Bhatta is set to compete with a Russian player, Dolgova Irina, under the 32nd Summer Olympics to be held in Tokyo, the capital of Japan, from July 23 to August 8.

As per the match schedule published Thursday, the match between judo players- Soniya and Irina has been confirmed.

The 19-year-old Soniya will compete under the 48-kg group. She is at 127th in the world ranking while Irina is placed in the ninth ranking. The match would be held on July 24. The winner of the match would be determined on the same day.

Soniya has been selected in the Olympics through wild card. She had won bronze medal in the 13th South Asian Games organized in Nepal.
