MANANG: Flood from the Marsyangdi River caused by the incessant rains Tuesday evening has swept away a suspension bridge at Chame, the district headquarters of Manang.
The bridge, the single means of connecting Chame to Upper Manang was swept away by the swollen river, resulting in inconvenience for people’s movement.
It may be noted that earlier monsoon–triggered floods from the Marsyangdi and the landslide had damaged roadways here. The latest damage has made the situation worse, according to Chief District Officer Bishnu Lamichhane.
The flood has its implications at multiple locations, affecting normal life.
Chame rural municipality chair Lokendra Bahadur Ghale said the sweeping away of the bridge has further fueled the problem and they have been facing challenges to deliver foodstuff to the disaster survivors.
The Manang folks had to suffer more consequences of natural disasters than in the past.
However, a motorable bridge at Chame is untouched by the flood impact. However, physical structures such as government offices, non-government offices, school buildings, and private residences were largely damaged by the incidences of flood and landslide earlier.
