PM Deuba-Mahanta meet: JSP’s Mahanta faction likely to join govt

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) Chairman Mahanta Thakur held talks at Baluwatar on Wednesday.

A leader close to Thakur said that the meeting held at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar discussed issues, including the release of JSP leader Resham Chaudhary, constitution amendment, and publicizing the report of Lal Commission.

Meanwhile, sources have also claimed that the Mahanta faction is also set to join the government with two ministerial portfolios.

However, the ministries are yet to be finalized, according to the source

During the meeting, Deuba had urged Mahanta’s faction to join the coalition government led by him.

Meanwhile, sources have also claimed that the Upendra Yadav faction of the JSP has agreed to join the government.

Both the factions of the JSP had given the vote of confidence to Prime Minister Deuba on July 19.

Prime Minister Deuba, meanwhile, assured both the factions that he would try to address the demands of Madhes as per the constitution and law.
