Nepal-Khanal faction mulls forming a new party without Oli



KATHMANDU: The Nepal-Khanal faction of the CPN-UML has discussed the issue of forming a new party without Chairman KP Sharma Oli saying that they will get a majority within the party.

The lawmakers floated the suggestion during a meeting between 22 lawmakers who had given a vote of confidence to Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba.

Lawmaker Birodh Khatiwada said that they have received eight more lawmakers from the Oli faction and others are also in touch.

Central Member Metmani Chaudhari said the Nepal-Khanal will form a new party by removing Oli since there will a majority in the CC meeting as well as in the Parliamentary Party after a few days.

Chaudhari also said that a decision on forming a new party would be taken after discussing with legal practitioners.

He said that the UML would make every effort to maintain unity and if the law allows, a new party will be formed.

Regarding the participation in the government, the Nepal-Khanal faction is ready to take a decision following a legal consultation and will join it if there is a guarantee that the lawmakers will not lose their memberships.

The Nepal-Khanal faction has convened a meeting with all its central members and parliamentarians today.
