KATHMANDU: Monday’s cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba decided to overturn the CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli-led government’s decision to appoint ambassadors to 11 different countries.
According to Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Gyanendra Bahadur Karki, the meeting of the Council of Ministers reversed the decision of the then government in relation to the appointment of 11 ambassadors without a parliamentary hearing.
“The cabinet meeting has decided to cancel the recommendation for the appointment of ambassadors to Australia, Sri Lanka, South Korea, Egypt, Denmark, Bahrain, Myanmar and other countries,” government Spokesperson Minister Karki said after the meeting, adding, “The appointments that had been made by skipping the mandatory provisions of parliamentary hearings have been scrapped by the government.”
The cabinet meeting also declared public holiday on Wednesday on the occasion of Bakrid – a festival of Muslim community.
