PM Deuba unveils outline of govt’s foreign policies

To keep friendly ties with both China and India



KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has made public the outline of foreign policies of the new government.

While taking the vote of confidence on Sunday, newly elected Prime Minister Deuba said the government will put emphasis on good relations with the neighboring countries.

Speaking on the occasion, Deuba said Nepal will benefit only when it keeps good relations with neighboring countries – China and India.

Deuba said, “Foreign relations will be established to suit the national interest of Nepal. Keeping friendly ties with neighboring countries will, hence, remain the top priority of the government.”

Deuba said the USA, European, Japan among others aside from neighboring countries are our development partners. “We should keep good relations with all the countries including China and India. There is neither permanent foe nor friend as such except our national interest.”

He further said that Nepal cannot go against the neighboring countries. “We can never go against our neighboring countries. We have also long-held cultural ties with both China and India.”

Analysts have opined that keeping balanced ties with America, China and India is a challenging task for the new government.
