President Bhandari revokes controversial Constitutional Council Ordinance



KATHMANDU: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has revoked the controversial Constitutional Council (Work, Duties, Rights and Procedures) (First Amendment) Ordinance, 2020 on Sunday.

Issuing a press release on Sunday, the Office of the President has informed that President Bhandari has scrapped the ordinance as per the recommendation of the Council of Ministers.

The cabinet meeting held on Saturday had decided to repeal the ordinance.

The revocation of the ordinance has made confusion about the status of the appointments made as per the amendment.

Erstwhile KP Oli government had twice issued ordinances on the Constitutional Council despite strong protest from the opposition parties and the ruling party CPN-UML itself.
