KATHMANDU: Tehrathum Sarokar Samaj Nepal is set to hold a Poetry Symposium and School-level Poetry Contest at the district headquarters Myanglung of Tehrathum district.
To be graced by the Chancellor of Nepal Academy Ganga Prasad Upreti as the chief guest of the program, the competition will take place at the district headquarters Myanglung on May 28.
Talking to Khabarhub, Dilli Ram Dhungel, coordinator of the program and senior vice-chairman of Tehrathum Sarokar Samaj Nepal said, “The Samaj is holding a poetry symposium and literary contest in a bid to promote mofussil Nepali literatures, languages and cultures.”
Two contestants from each school in the district can write two poems on any issues and send them to Tehrathum Sarokar Samaj Nepal via its official E-mail [email protected]) by May 17. The language should be either Nepali or Limbu, according to Dhungel.
Six best poems, among those participating in the contest, will be chosen after evaluation by a panel of experts. And the results will be unveiled on the same day amidst a ceremony.
The winner will be given away Rs 10,000 in a cash prize along with a letter of appreciation, while the first runner up will go away with a cash prize of Rs 7,000, and the second runner up will receive Rs 5, 000. Similarly, the remaining three will get Rs 200 each along with letters of appreciation.
Similarly, the Samaj is also holding a free essay writing competition titled ‘Sundar Tehrathum, Samriddha Tehrathum’ (Beautiful Tehrathum, Prosperous Tehrathum).

Since this is an open essay writing competition, anyone interested from across the globe can take part in the contest.
The winners will be awarded cash prizes along with the letters of appreciation. The first prize carries a purse of Rs 20,000 along with a letter of appreciation. First runner-up will bag Rs 15,000 while the second runner-up will receive a purse of Rs 10,000 along with a letter of appreciation.
Likewise, the Samaj will also honor 10 district-based litterateurs for their contribution to the field of Nepali and Limbu languages, literatures, and cultures. They will be feted with dosallas along with copper plaques.
