NC 14th Gen Convention won’t be postponed even for a single day: PM Deuba

Active membership issue finalized in 75 districts



KATHMANDU: With the active membership dispute inching towards consensus, the ruling Nepali Congress (NC) has geared up for holding the 14th general convention on the stipulated date.

Out of 77 districts, the dispute of active membership has been resolved in 75 districts, said an NC source. The disputes of the active memberships in Bara and Saptari will be sorted out in a few days.

An officer-bearers’ meeting held in Baluwtar on Friday took a decision to orientate all the party rank and file towards holding the general convention.

Speaking at the officer-bears’ meeting yesterday Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba vehemently stated that the 14th general convention will not be postponed even for a single day.

The NC 14th general convention has been scheduled for September 1-4 in the Kathmandu Valley.

Following the meeting, senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel said the general convention will be held on the stipulated date. “A committee has been formed to resolve the problems seen in the election directory. It will seek solution to all the existing problems,” said Poudel.

Deputy General Secretary Dr Shashanka Koirala and Central Committee member Dr. Minendra Rijal have been entrusted to resolve the issue related to the directory, informed central party office secretary Krishna Prasad Paudel.

Active membership investigation committee led by Ramesh Lekhak has been given one more day to resolve the remaining dispute and if it remains unresolved, the leadership will use its discretion to conclude the issue.

The committee consists of coordinator Ramesh Lekhak, members Ananda Prasad Dhungana, Shyam Kumar Ghimire, Jeevan Pariyar, Preedip Poudel, Kalyan Gurung and Yogendra Chaudhari

Dr Mahat and Dr Rijal are holding a meeting with the Election Committee of the party today to finalize the issue seen in the directory.
