Budget hit as Oli govt nosedives 3 days prior to its implementation

KATHMANDU: With the exit of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, the budget introduced by former Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel for the fiscal year 2021/22 has been hit.

Former Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel had introduced a 1.647 trillion budget through an ordinance. It has now faced problem in its implementation since the Oli-led government witnessed a downfall three days before its implementation.

It is not clear whether Sher Bahadur Deuba-led government will bring a full-fledged budget or how it will sort out the legal hassles seen in the implementation of the budget.

Not only the budget, all the ministers involved in the Oli-led cabinet and the staffers at the secretariat level have been relieved of their posts.

Security arrangements have been beefed up at Budhanilkantha for newly appointed Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba. DSP Komal Shah, who was earlier in-charge of Kathmandu municipal police, has been picked as the Chief Security Officer (PSO) of Prime Minister Deuba. Deuba will move to Baluwatar after a few days.

Attorney General Ramesh Badal tendered his resignation yesterday. Vice Chairman of National Planning Commission Dr Pushpa Raj Kandel, members Krishna Prasad Oli, Usha Jha, Min Bahadur Shahi and Raj Bahadur Giri have been relieved of their posts.

Likewise, Prime Minister Oli’s secretariat experts Bishnu Rimal, Dr Rajan Bhattarai, Gajendra Thapaliya, and Surya Thapa among others have lost their jobs.
