Outgoing PM Oli doubtful about smooth running of parliament, new govt in future

KATHMANDU: Outgoing Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has expressed doubts over the functionality of the government and parliament in the days ahead.

In his address to the nation before leaving Singha Durbar Tuesday, he came down heavily on the Supreme Court (SC).

The SC Monday restored the parliament and ordered the appointment of Sher Bahadur Deuba as the Prime Minister by 5 pm Tuesday.

He said that the effects of the SC decision was to be seen in the future. Stating that instead of trying to strengthen national sovereignty and independence in the true sense and political course was being led to the wrong direction, he said, “I wish my best for the parliament to run for the rest of its term. I also hope the election will be held on time, but I doubt it.”

“In the midst of developments taking place, it is doubtful that the parliament and the new government will run smoothly,” he said. He was of the view that the country and the people are aware of the leading characters and their roles in recent political developments. “I don’t think I have to say anything,” he said.
