KATHMANDU: After Supreme Court’s Monday verdict to reinstate the House of Representatives for the second time, Attorney General (AG) Ramesh Badal has resigned from the post.
According to sources, AG Badal submitted his resignation letter to Prime Minister KP Oli on Tuesday.
“From today, Prime Minister KP Oli will no more be in his post, that’s why I have decided to resign,” Badal said after submitting resignation to PM Oli.
Badal was appointed to the post after the then Attorney General Agni Kharel resigned on March 20.
He had defended the recent dissolution of the House of Representatives.
On the SC’s Monday verdict, the court ruled that the remarks made by Attorney General Ramesh Badal on the formation of the Constitutional bench were unacceptable and worth forgetting.
Badal had taken to controversy for criticizing the bench and growing skeptic about the justice the Supreme Court could deliver.
He had repeatedly raised the issue of keeping Deepak Kumar Karki and Ananda Mohan Bhattarai in the Constitutional bench though the justices were appointed in the bench on the seniority basis.
