NC President Deuba determined to hold general convention on time

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba has said he is determined to hold the 14th general convention on time even if he loses. He said so during a discussion held Saturday with central members close to him.

Deuba said that he was not ready to bear the stigma of not being able to hold the general convention. He also instructed all to fulfill their responsibilities concerning the general convention to hold it on the scheduled date.

“I am determined to hold the general convention on time, regardless of me winning or losing. All have to complete their responsibility to hold the convention on time,“ Deuba said.

He also said the general assembly would be held on the basis of consensus reached Friday regarding active membership renewal and distribution. “Try to be flexible on consensus to resolve disputes. If disputes cannot be resolved then leave such issues for the next general convention and move ahead,” he told members of the active membership probe committee.

The meeting was attended by Vice Presidents Bimalendra Nidhi and Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar, General Secretary Purna Bahadur Khadka, Joint General Secretary Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat, Coordinator of active membership probe committee Ramesh Lekhak, among others.

The NC is scheduled to hold the 14th general convention from September 1-4 in Kathmandu. As per the schedule, the probe committee must submit its report on active memberships to the Central Working Committee by Sunday.

The active members of the party are direct voters in ward-level conventions. There is a legal provision to elect a regional representative from the ward convention and a general convention representative from the regional representative.

The NC is increasing the number of active members to one million for the upcoming general convention.
