Minister Poudel instructs security agencies not to give in to pressure



KATHMANDU: Minister for Home Affairs Bishnu Prasad Poudel has directed the ministry officials and security personnel to work without any external influence and pressure.

Assuming the office on Friday, Minister Poudel directed staffers in the line agencies to work with a sense of responsibility and assured that there would not be any undue interference from him in the works of the security agencies and administration of the ministry. Emphasizing the freedom for any officials to work with his/her conscience and integrity, Poudel asserted, “I believe one should discharge his/her duty being result-oriented.”

On a different note, the Ministry strictly asked staffers not to visit him for any transfer, promotion, foreign jaunts and postponement of transfer. He reaffirmed that he would be held responsible for any decisions he makes as a Minister. Minister Poudel reiterated that security agencies and Home Ministry’s administration should not be under the influence of political situation in the country.

On the occasion, Spokesperson at the Home Ministry, Janak Raj Dahal, said the newly appointed Minister had instructed staffers working in line agencies to work in such a manner that helps implement the government’s policies, programs and plans. According to Dahal, the Minister also encouraged security agencies officials to apprise the Minister about the issues and challenges facing the security agencies while maintaining law and order.

Minister Poudel also held the portfolio of the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supply and Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation. President Bidya Devi Bhandari entrusted Poudel with the responsibilities of these ministries Thursday at the recommendation of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.
