UML leader Nepal inclined to welcome PM Oli if he corrects political course

Says it was Oli's arrogance to dissolve the parliament and declare elections

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal has said that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli should be welcomed if he realizes his mistakes and reverts to the right political course.

Speaking at a press conference held by the opposition alliance at the Parliament building in New Baneshwor Thursday to make public programs of street struggle against the government, leader Nepal called on Oli to rectify the political course. “Sometimes people make mistakes. KP Oli should be welcomed if he undergoes introspection and admits his mistake,” Nepal said.

He said that the opposition alliance had to struggle as Oli violated the constitution and rule of law. “People’s consciousness has intensified. It was Oli’s arrogance to declare election by dissolving the parliament at a time when the government had to focus on good governance, defend the constitution and serve the people. Let’s correct this course,” leader Nepal said.

He also said that Oli’s action against leaders close to him was meaningless. UML Chair Oli expelled leaders of his group including Nepal, Jhala Nath Khanal and Bhim Rawal from the party.

The UML is on the verge of a split as both factions stick to their own demands for reconciliation. At a time when the UML row is at its peak, a coalition of five opposition parties, including Nepal’s faction, is preparing an agitation against the government’s moves and unseat Oli.

The Nepali Congress, Maoist Center, UML’s Nepal-Khanal faction, Janata Samajwadi Party’s (JSP) Upendra Yadav-Dr Baburam Bhattarai faction and the Rastriya Janamorcha’s have been exercising to remove the Oli government.

The coalition that went to court against the dissolution of the House of Representatives by Oli is now preparing to hit the streets.
