EC seeks JSP’s Thakur’s written response on Yadav’s party legitimacy claim

KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has sought written response from Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) Chairman Mahanta Thakur faction within 15 days on an application filed by another Chairman Upendra Yadav that claims the legitimacy of the party.

A meeting of the EC held Sunday decided to seek Thakur’s reply with necessary documentation within 15 days in relation to Yadav’s claim, said EC Spokesperson Raj Kumar Shrestha.

JSP Chairman Upendra Yadav had approached the EC Friday, claiming the party’s legitimacy with the signatures of the majority of the Executive Committee.

The Yadav faction filed the application under Article 43 of the Political Parties Act, 2017, Friday after the EC refused to update the party registration book as per Article 51, as had been demanded by both the factions earlier.
