KATHMANDU: As many as 800,000 active members of the Nepali Congress (NC) are participating in the party’s 14th General Convention to be held on September 1-4 this year.
Of them, 380,000 are old active members while 420,000 are new members.
The NC has, meanwhile, decided not to renew the active memberships of the party members who posed themselves as rebel candidates against the official candidates fielded by the party.
The party has not renewed the active memberships of several cadres. Nepali Congress has given June 23 deadline to those districts that have delayed submitting the details of the active members, according to Keshav Rijal, the secretary of the Central Active Membership Investigation Committee.
Provinces, districts, regional, local units have been directed to send the details within the extended deadline.
However, the active memberships of those who filed a candidacy against the official candidates at any level will not be renewed, said Rijal. Similarly, the proposers and seconders will also be denied active memberships.
Likewise, the NC has initiated an investigation on the complaints filed against the memberships, and that the investigation committee will submit the details to party President Sher Bahadur Deuba by July 4.
President Deuba then will submit the details to the party’s Central Election Committee by July 14.
Once this process is over, the 14th General Convention will begin.

Similarly, Pradesh Assembly regional convention has been scheduled for August 4, regional (in the district with one constituency) convention on August 7 and regional convention in the districts with more than one constituency on August 10.
