NC President Deuba likely to contest for leadership again

Calls Vice-President Nidhi, and other leaders to discuss about candidacy

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba has started consultation with leaders close to him with regards to claiming the party’s leadership once again in the upcoming general convention.

According to NC sources, President Deuba called the party’s vice-president Bimalendra Nidhi to hold discussions about his candidature.

Earlier, in his Saturday meeting with Province 1 NC leaders, Deuba had shared his plan of contesting for the post of party President.

“The general convention of the party will be as per the amended schedule. I will contest for the post of President again,” a leader who attended Deuba’s meeting in Budhanilkantha quoted Deuba as saying.

As per the source, Deuba claimed that he successfully executed federalism by conducting three-tier elections. He expressed desires to strengthen and unite the party further well aware that the party got few seats in the parliament. Deuba, however, argued that the NC retained the highest number of popular votes and he should steer the party again.

NC President Deuba has been in consultation with NC leaders of all provinces. He called and shared his plan to contest for the post of president to the leaders of Province 2 as well. Province 2 NC leaders reached President Deuba’s residence at Budhanilkantha at 2 pm Saturday.
