5 ex-PMs draw attention to PM Oli’s ugly lust for power never seen before

KATHMANDU: Five former Prime Ministers have said PM KP Sharma Oli through his undemocratic acts demonstrated his ugly lust for power that never existed in the country’s political history. They added PM Oli was repeatedly assaulting the constitution.

They have also drawn the attention of all to adopt vigilance to prevent direct or indirect interference of external forces in the country’s internal politics.

Issuing a joint statement Saturday five former PMs said, “We, Nepalis ought to make decisions about Nepal and we want to draw everyone’s attention to the need to ensure that there is no direct or indirect interference or manipulation of external forces in Nepal’s internal politics.”

Former PMs Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, Sher Bahadur Deuba, Madhav Kumar Nepal, Jhala Nath Khanal and Dr Baburam Bhattarai stated in the statement that PM Oli consistently undermined the rule of law and the federal democratic republic system earned though the long struggle of Nepali people.

“By dissolving the House of Representatives (HoR) for the second time even after the Supreme Court ruled that his act of dissolving the HoR last December was unconstitutional, PM Oli showed his authoritarian, arbitrary and regressive character,” the former prime minister wrote.

They also noted that PM Oli’s decisions had made him a caretaker PM. “Even as caretaker, PM Oli has pressed forward in unconstitutional and undemocratic ways such as announcing the budget from the ordinance, arbitrarily forming task force on highly sensitive issues, such as constitution amendment, without national consensus, expanding the Council of Ministers arbitrarily,” the statement reads.
