CM Gurung likely to lose vote of confidence as lawmaker Manange decides to support opp’n alliance

POKHARA:  As things stand, the opposition alliance is likely to garner a majority for the formation of a new government in Gandaki Pradesh.

The possibility of keeping the  Province Assembly intact has grown after the independent lawmaker Rajiv Gurung alias Manange decided to support the opposition alliance.

Chief Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung is taking a vote of confidence in the provincial assembly meeting slated for 12 pm today.

Manange, who is the incumbent Sports Minister in the cabinet, took a decision to this effect saying that the province assembly should not be dissolved.

He was not present in the cabinet meeting held on Wednesday evening.

Out of 60 lawmakers in the Gandaki Provincial Assembly, 31 votes are required to secure the vote of confidence.

Chief Minister Gurung is unlikely to secure the vote of confidence as the other parties have decided not to cast votes for him while the ruling the  CPN-UML has only 27 lawmakers.

Opposition parties have a total of 32 lawmakers (Nepali Congress (NC) 15, CPN (Maoist Center) 12, Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) two and Rastriya Janamorcha (RJM) three).

RJM lawmaker Krishna Thapa has decided to cross the floor. Even if one lawmaker of RJM voted for Gurung, if independent lawmaker Rajiv Gurung alias Manange extended his support to the opposition alliance, it would form the new government.
