KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court (SC) of the United States on Monday directed the government not to approve Green Card applications of people who have entered the US illegally.

After the SC order, people who entered the US illegally or who have been there after a temporary suspension of expatriation program will face difficulties in getting US Green Card.

Giving a verdict on the case related to a couple from El Salvador living under the Temporary Protected Status (TPS), Justice Elennish Roan directed the government to make arrangements not to issue Green Card to the people living illegally there.

A large number of people who entered the US illegally are currently living under the TPS program.

There are 10 countries, including Nepal, that have faced war or conflict included in the US TPS program.
