KATHMANDU: Today is Racial Discrimination and Untouchability Day.

There have been still issues of social discrimination and untouchability despite the Nepal government announced the end of racial discrimination and untouchability many years ago.

Against this background, President Bidya Bhandari has appealed to one and all to stand united against the evil practices of social discrimination and untouchability.

Issuing a press note, President Bhandari said the untouchability and social discriminations are evil practices and are not acceptable in society.

“Ending such evil practices from the very roots, we should stand united to transform the society into a just, civilized, cultured and equitable society,” said Bhandari in the message.

The Nepal government had declared the end of untouchability on June 4, 2006.
