297 of 300 votes cast in Lumbini NA by-election



KATHMANDU: As many as 297 votes of the total 300 votes have been cast in the Lumbini National Assembly by-election. The voting time was till 3 pm Monday afternoon.

All 83 Lumbini Provincial Assembly members and 214 local level chiefs and deputy chiefs have cast their votes Monday.

According to the provincial election office, three elected officials of local levels did not reach the polling station to cast their votes.

They are Mayor Dhawal Sumsher Rana of Nepalgunj Sub-metropolitan City of Banke, Chairman Mohammad Istiak Sah of Narainapur Rural Municipality and Chairman Ashok Thapa of Gulmi Durbar Rural Municipality of Gulmi.

Nepalgunj Mayor Rana, who is from the Rastriya Prajatantra Party, publicly informed that he would boycott the voting.

Vote count is underway and election result is expected later in the day.

Chandra Bahadur Khadka from ruling CPN-UML and Drig Narayan Pandey from the opposition parties are contesting the elections.
