Former lawmaker Neupane dies of COVID-19



KATHMANDU: Former Member of Parliament Ratna Prasad Sharma Neupane, who was undergoing treatment at the Armed Police Hospital, Kathmandu, has died of coronavirus last night.

His son Madan Ratna Neupane confirmed his death.

Neupane, who was initially admitted to the hospital with the coronavirus infection, later became seriously ill with pneumonia in his lungs.

Neupane, who was admitted to the Birendra Police Hospital in Kathmandu for treatment on May 6, was kept in the ICU of the Armed Police Hospital after his condition deteriorated.

His son Madan said that Neupane had been undergoing treatment on a ventilator for 10 days after his condition worsened.

According to Madan, Neupane’s last coronavirus report was negative and he was diagnosed with pneumonia.

Neupane of Chhedagad Municipality-6, Suwannauli was elected as a member of the House of Representatives in 2056 BS from Jajarkot Constituency No. 2 on behalf of UML.

He was currently a member of the Karnali Pradesh Committee of the CPN-UML, Central Vice-Chairman of the UML-affiliated Kisan Mahasangh, and in charge of Karnali Pradesh.
